This November, the LDE Space & Society Honours Programme will kick off once again: an interdisciplinary honours track jointly organised by Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The programme brings together motivated second and third-year bachelor students from all disciplines to explore the technological and societal challenges of the space sector.
Running from November to June, the programme combines lectures, sector visits, workshops, and an interdisciplinary team project. Students take part in four modules covering Space Applications & Exploration, Space Business & Innovation, Space Law, Governance & Society, and Space Engineering & Technology. These modules provide insights into the fundamentals of the space sector and highlight how these domains interact with or influence each other.
This project was the perfect opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and learn from each other. Beyond the classroom, we also visited key institutions in the sector, gaining insights from experts in the field.

The Space Challenge
In the second part of the programme, students team up across universities to tackle a real-life space challenge. Working in interdisciplinary groups, they design innovative solutions that combine technological and societal perspectives, and present their findings to experts. The process encourages students to integrate knowledge from different disciplines and translate theory into practice. Throughout the challenge, teams receive guidance from academic staff and professionals in the field.
